The California legislature has been very active, recently adopting several bills on artificial intelligence (AI) which now await signature from the governor. Among these is the AI Transparency Act, which has now been signed into law. The AI Transparency Act outlines disclosure and notice requirements for providers of AI systems, watermarking requirements, and licensing obligations for third parties using AI systems; while the other bills focus on notification of users, third-party audits, assessments for specific models, and whistleblower disclosures, etc.
